Dylan Fitze: The Veteran Winger Tulsa Brought Back After a Hot Finish

4 min read

Every ECHL roster needs a few veterans who know exactly what the league demands. For the 2026-27 Tulsa Oilers, Dylan Fitze is one of them. The 33-year-old winger from Peterborough, Ontario, finished last season on a tear and re-signed with Tulsa in September for a second season. This profile looks at Dylan Fitze’s career, his strong finish in 2025-26 and why he matters to a roster full of newcomers.

Quick facts: Fitze wears No. 22 and is listed at 6-foot-2 and 203 pounds. In 2025-26 he scored 16 goals and 29 points in 47 games for Tulsa, tying for second on the team in goals despite missing 12 games with an injury. Over his final 17 games, from March 12 to April 18, he produced 17 points. Before Tulsa, he spent four seasons with the Utah Grizzlies, according to the Oilers’ re-signing announcement.

A Canadian University Path to Pro Hockey

Fitze did not take the typical NCAA route. Instead, he played Canadian university hockey at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario, where he scored 41 goals and 73 points in 129 games. U Sports, the Canadian university system, has become a steady source of ECHL talent, and several current Oilers came through it. For example, defenseman Connor Olson joined Tulsa this fall after four seasons at Saint Mary’s University.

Dylan Fitze: Four Seasons as a Leader in Utah

Most of Fitze’s ECHL career came with the Utah Grizzlies. In four seasons there, he played 192 games and scored 104 points. He also served as an alternate captain for three seasons, and in 2023-24 he scored 21 goals, third-most on the team. Elsewhere in his career, he also played for Orlando and made two appearances for Kansas City.

Across his ECHL career, Fitze has reached double-digit goals in all six of his full seasons, according to the Oilers. That consistency is exactly what coaches look for in a middle-six winger.

Year One in Tulsa: A Strong Finish

Fitze’s first season in Tulsa was a tale of two halves. An injury cost him 12 games, but he came back strong. From March 12 to April 18, he scored nine goals and added eight assists for 17 points in 17 games. During that stretch, the Oilers went 16-9 over their final 25 games, according to the club.

His biggest night came at the very end. In the 2025-26 season finale at Wichita, Fitze recorded three primary assists as Tulsa rallied for a 7-6 overtime win, according to the Oilers’ recap. Our history of the Oilers-Thunder rivalry covers that wild game.

What Rob Murray Wants From Dylan Fitze

When Tulsa re-signed him, head coach Rob Murray pointed to Fitze’s experience at the ECHL level and called him a great addition last year. Murray also said the team wants to see Fitze carry his strong finish into the start of the new season. Our profile of Rob Murray explains why he values veterans who know the league.

Why veterans matter this season

Tulsa’s 2026-27 roster includes several rookies, among them Max Itagaki, Kyle Kukkonen and Ian Amsbaugh. Younger players learn faster when experienced teammates show them how to manage a 72-game schedule, long bus trips and weekend three-in-threes. In that sense, Fitze joins longtime Oiler Tyler Poulsen as a key veteran voice. Read our profiles of Tyler Poulsen and Ian Amsbaugh for two very different career stages.

What to Watch in 2026-27

  1. Goal scoring. Can Fitze reach double digits again for a seventh straight full season?
  2. Health. After missing 12 games last year, staying in the lineup is the biggest key.
  3. Special teams. Veteran wingers often play on the power play, where finishing ability matters most.
  4. Rivalry games. With 14 meetings against Wichita, his finale performance gives fans a reason to watch him closely in those games.

The Bottom Line

Dylan Fitze is the kind of reliable, experienced winger who rarely makes headlines but often makes the difference in a long season. If he carries last spring’s form into 2026-27, Tulsa will have a valuable scorer behind its top line. For the rest of the lineup, see our 2026-27 roster guide.
