In the ECHL, goaltending can make or break a season, and it is also the position that changes most often. The Tulsa Oilers goaltenders listed on the 2026-27 roster are Tomas Suchanek, a Czech international reassigned from the San Diego Gulls, and Jake Sibell, a Minnesota native who returned after helping Tulsa through a goalie shortage last season. This profile covers both players, their records and what to watch as the season unfolds.
Quick answer: The official Oilers roster lists two goaltenders: No. 1 Tomas Suchanek and No. 35 Jake Sibell. Suchanek, 23, has 44 games of AHL experience and won silver with Czechia at the 2023 World Junior Championship. Sibell, 26, was the NAHL’s MVP and goaltender of the year in junior hockey and posted a .925 save percentage in nine games for Tulsa in 2025-26.

Tomas Suchanek: An International Pedigree
Suchanek arrived in North America through the Western Hockey League, where he played three seasons with the Tri-City Americans from 2020 to 2023. He went 39-38-5 with a 3.44 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage there, according to the Oilers.
However, his biggest moment came internationally. At the 2023 World Junior Championship, he helped Czechia win a silver medal, posting a 1.38 goals-against average and a .938 save percentage and earning a spot on the tournament All-Star Team. In addition, he represented Czechia at the 2022 World Juniors and at earlier under-18 and under-17 events.
AHL experience with San Diego
Suchanek has played 44 AHL games for the San Diego Gulls, with a 3.06 goals-against average, a .901 save percentage and three shutouts. In 2025-26 he split time between San Diego and Tulsa. With the Gulls he went 5-7-3, and with the Oilers he went 3-8-0 with a 4.27 goals-against average.
Admittedly, those Tulsa numbers were difficult, so his 2026-27 season is a chance to reset. San Diego reassigned him to Tulsa on Oct. 13, and he was in goal for the Oilers’ 5-1 loss at Wichita on Oct. 23, as noted in our early-season results report. Because he is under contract through the Anaheim system, he could also be recalled to San Diego at any time. Our explainer on the Anaheim Ducks affiliation covers how those moves work.
Jake Sibell: The Goalie Who Filled the Gap
Sibell’s route was very different. He played three NAHL seasons with Minot, Brookings, the Minnesota Wilderness and Aberdeen, and his best season was exceptional: a 1.19 goals-against average and a .952 save percentage, both league bests. That year, he was named NAHL MVP and goaltender of the year, as well as USA Hockey’s Junior Goalie of the Year for 2020-21.
Next came four college seasons, two at Niagara University and two at the University of St. Thomas, where he went 21-20-4 with a 2.68 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage.
A midseason rescue for the Tulsa Oilers goaltenders in 2025-26
Sibell’s pro career started slowly. Greensboro released him in October 2025 after one game. Then, in December 2025, Tulsa picked him up at a time when both of its goaltenders had been called up to San Diego. In that stretch, he went 4-2 with a 2.41 goals-against average and a .925 save percentage in nine games. Head coach Rob Murray later called him “a Godsend” for stepping in, and praised his competitiveness and work ethic, according to the club. Murray added that Sibell impressed San Diego’s coaches at their camp.
What to Watch From the Tulsa Oilers Goaltenders
- Who gets the most starts. Suchanek’s pedigree is stronger, but Sibell’s numbers in Tulsa last season were better. Performance will likely decide playing time.
- Call-ups. If San Diego needs a goalie, Tulsa’s tandem could change overnight, so watch the transaction lists.
- Save percentage over time. A goaltender’s numbers swing wildly in the first month. After 10 or more starts, the trends become more meaningful.
- Defense in front of them. Goals-against average depends heavily on the team’s defense, which is why save percentage is usually the better measure.

The Bottom Line
Tulsa’s goaltending pairs international experience with a proven fill-in who has already succeeded at the BOK Center. How Suchanek and Sibell perform, and whether the Anaheim system keeps them both in Tulsa, will shape the Oilers’ push for the Kelly Cup playoffs.
